Sprinkles For Cake Decorating

Sprinkles are tiny pieces of edible confectionery that add glam and personality to your cupcakes, cakes, cake pops, cookies and other sweet goodies.  The added texture will make your baked goods look spectacular and giving it that special touch.

One of our favourites is the Zoo Accents where the tiny elephants, gorillas, hippos and lions are just the cutest.  Then a very close second is the Pink Ribbon & White Mix where we donate 50% of profits from this item directly to Breast Cancer Care, a UK charity providing support and advice for anyone affected by breast cancer.

Recently mentioned, we will be supplying sprinkles for the 2,400 hand-made cupcakes (provided by Frost & Snow) in the Women’s Weekly Magazine Make & Take Area at this year’s Cake International.

Sprinkles which will be used in the Make & Take Area include our seasonal themed Snowflakes and peppermint flavoured Candy Canes, Red and Silver Sparkling Sugars, Barn Pals, Zoo Accents, Fun Shaped Accents, Hearts & Flowers, Dinosaurs, Cows, Polka Dots and so much more.

These sprinkles are presented either in a four-section plastic tub or a metal clipped glass jar and you’ll have plenty of time to use them as they have an average shelf life of two years.  We’ve also tried them on various types of frosting and butter-cream and haven’t had any reported colour runs (an occasional issue I know some bakers have).

Suitable for all seasonal bakes and themed parties, visit www.buynbake.com and bring out the aspiring bakers in you.

How To Make Cake Push Pops

You will need:

1 x 12 cupcake batter
1 x buttercream frosting for 12 cupcakes
1 x non-stick rectangle baking tray (I use a 495mm x 305mm)
1 x 1.75” (4.3cm) diameter circle cutter (optional)
1 x cake push pop stand
1 x plain seamless nozzle

1. Bake your cupcake batter in the non-stick baking tray, filling ¾ up the tray (you are aiming for the baked sponge to be approximately 1.5cm high); whilst the sponge is being baked….

2. Prepare your buttercream frosting and have it ready in your piping bag that has been fitted with the nozzle;

3. Prepare your cake push pop containers and place them on the cake push pop stand;

4. Once the sponge has been baked, leave it to cool down;

5. Use the circle cutter to cut the sponge - allowing three circles for one cake push pop. (Using a cutter is optional as I personally prefer the sharp clean cut on the cake sponge but you can just as easily use the cylindrical chamber itself to make the circles).

6. First layer: With one hand holding the container, use the other hand to gently push one circle of cake sponge into the container which should fit comfortably;

7. Second layer: Pipe in your buttercream frosting, nearest to the container first so that you have a smooth and tidy edge before piping towards the centre of your layered cake sponge (approximately 1cm high of frosting);

8. Third layer: Top with your favourite sprinkles;

Repeat steps 6-8 twice and fit on the sealed lid.

Ta-da! You should now have a three-layer cake push pop and the left over cake sponge for cake pops.

Alternatively if you are really short for time, you could bake your cupcake batter in our silconflex petit-four and that way you eliminate using a baking tray in step 1, steps 5 and 6 altogether.

Remember that this is just a guideline.  The combinations of cake sponge, buttercream frosting and sprinkles are endless, and the techniques will vary as you develop into making them.

Cost Savings

If you don’t fancy buying a cake push pop stand but still want something which you can display and present them in, you can use a cardboard box or even a shoe box.  Wrap the box in your desired wrapping paper and cut out the desired number of 1cm holes.  Alternatively you could try filling up a glass vase with coloured sand, glass beads or even sprinkles!

Although these containers are designed to be clear so that you can show off your creativity and creations, you can personalise them by printing your own labels (I use Avery labels) or have them done professionally by a specialist – colour, glossy or transparent labels, doesn’t matter as it really is down to personal preference.

Good Luck!

Beginning Of A Blog With Cake Push Pops

Hello and welcome to a place for sharing information on what Buy ‘N’ Bake is about, on what we do and on the journey of running a growing online baking equipment and cake decorating supplier for the domestic and entrepreneurial cupcakers, bakers, pรขtissiers and gelato makers.

So I've decided to stick to something I am passionate about - cake push pops (not be to be confused with cake pops).

I will never forget the butterflies and excitement I got when I first read about this new trend in the US. I was looking at all these wonderful creations people were making but no one at the time were selling them in the UK, yet alone know how to make them and where to buy them from.

In fact it took me a while to even figure out what they were called!  Known as cake shooters and push up cakes in the US, and now known as push up pops, cake push ups, layer cake popsicles, cake push pops in the UK.  The variance in the name itself was nearly as close as to the versatility of the product!

Then the light bulb moment came.

Not only did I want to buy, bake and create them, I also wanted to bring them into the UK so everyone can get in on this fun trend.  I guess you could say that is how Buy 'N' Bake started.

These transparent cake push pop containers come with fitted lids making them convenient and safe to transport and the plastic is 100% recyclable, freezeable to -40C and reusable.

A little fiddly and time consuming to begin with when making these but no more than the other things we like to bake and create – besides, the versatility of the containers outweighs that factor.  I have seen people use them as celebration cake favours, for sushi and creating stunning desserts by filling them with moose, cheesecakes, ice cream, jelly and trifles.

With baking becoming ever more popular, the cake push pop won’t replace the good old-fashioned cupcakes but giving people a choice.  That said, the concept of being able to transport them as well as being able to eat them mess-free, makes these cake push pops a tempting treat and novelty.

People are getting positively intrigued by them and now with more cake supply stores selling them in the UK, I have no doubt that the product will soon reach the shelves of supermarkets, deli and high street food counters.
